Multi-Day Ambulatory Monitoring (8-Day Holter Monitor)

What is an 8-Day Holter Monitor?

multi-day Holter monitor records your heart’s electrical activity continuously over an eight-day period. It helps detect and assess abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) that may not appear during a standard ECG.

This type of long-term monitoring provides valuable insight into how your heart behaves during everyday activities, rest, and sleep — without interrupting your normal routine.

What to expect during the 8-Day Holter Monitor test

cardiac technician will fit the monitor in our clinic. A small electrode patch will be placed on your chest to record your heart’s activity. (If you have chest hair, a small area may be shaved to ensure good contact with the skin.)

You’ll also receive a symptom and activity diary to note any events such as palpitations, dizziness, or chest discomfort, as well as your daily activities. This helps your cardiologist interpret the recordings accurately.

You can shower and continue most normal activities while wearing the monitor. Please inform the technician if your job or activities might involve water, heavy perspiration, or impact to the device so we can provide guidance.

After the 8-day period, you’ll return the monitor to our clinic for analysis. Our expert cardiologist, Dr Gerald Yong, will review your results and send a detailed report to your referring doctor.

How do I prepare for the 8-Day Holter Monitor?

No special preparation is required for this test. Simply wear a two-piece outfit for easier access to your chest during fitting, and arrive freshly showered.

How long does an echocardiogram take?

An echocardiogram takes approximately 45 minutes.
Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for check-in.
