Dr Gerald Yong is an Interventional Cardiologist with a special interest in structural heart disease, obstructive coronary conditions, and general cardiology. He is recognised for his leadership in minimally invasive cardiac treatments, offering advanced solutions that reduce the need for open-heart surgery.

His expertise spans transcatheter valve replacements and repairs, and closure of structural heart defects such as PFO, ASD, left atrial appendage (LAAC), and paravalvular leaks. Dr Yong also specialises in complex and high-risk coronary interventions, including chronic total occlusions.

Dr Yong graduated with Honours in Medicine from the University of Western Australia. He completed his General Cardiology training and Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at Royal Perth Hospital, followed by subspecialty training in Structural Cardiac Interventions at Evanston Hospital, Chicago, and the Montreal Heart Institute, Canada.

In 2009, Dr Yong performed Western Australia’s first Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVI), marking a milestone in the field of structural cardiology. He has participated in numerous national and international research studies, particularly in TAVI and structural heart disease, and has been widely published and invited to speak at major international conferences. He is frequently asked to train new operators across Australia and Asia.

Dr Yong is the Clinical Lead for Structural Heart and Valve Intervention at Fiona Stanley Hospital. ​Besides Fiona Stanley Hospital, Dr Yong currently operates out of the following private hospitals: Mount Private Hospital, Hollywood Private Hospital, and St John of God Hospital, Murdoch.
